Acts
Overview
In ACT 3 AI, an Act is a major narrative division of your project. Acts are the highest level of story structure, containing scenes and shots, and they help define the pacing, tone, and progression of your video or film.
The ACT 3 AI platform uses a standard hierarchy: Idea → Act → Scene → Shot → Output
Purpose of Acts
- Organize a story into logical, dramatic segments.
- Define rising action, climax, and resolution points.
- Provide a clear framework for writers, directors, and editors.
- Enable AI-assisted story shaping in the AI Wizard.
Typical Structure
Most films or videos use a 3-act structure, but ACT 3 AI supports flexible act divisions depending on your narrative:
- Act 1 (Setup): Introduces characters, setting, and conflict.
- Act 2 (Confrontation): Expands conflict, develops characters, raises stakes.
- Act 3 (Resolution): Climax and conclusion, resolving central conflict.
- Optional Act 4+ for episodic content or extended narratives.
How to Use Acts in ACT 3 AI
- Start a new project or open an existing one.
- Use the AI Wizard to automatically generate acts from a logline or concept.
- Add or edit acts manually in the Script Editor or Timeline.
- Organize scenes within each act for structure.
- Lock acts once finalized to avoid major changes during production.
Integration with Workflow
- Acts appear in the Timeline editor for quick navigation.
- The AI Wizard can suggest beats and plot points for each act.
- Storyboards and Top-Down View can be filtered by act.
- Build Video maintains act divisions for review or exporting.
Best Practices
- Define acts early for clarity before adding details.
- Keep each act focused on a single narrative purpose.
- Use story beats to break down acts into smaller units.
- Align acts with audience expectations for genre (e.g., Act 1 shorter for fast-paced content).
Troubleshooting
- Too few acts: Add additional acts if your story feels rushed or underdeveloped.
- Too many acts: Consider merging if pacing slows or becomes confusing.
- AI-generated acts don’t match vision: Edit manually in the Script Editor.
